How to convert Chase "cashback" to transferable Chase Ultimate Rewards points

Before we begin, it's important to understand that the Ink Business Cash® Credit Card and the Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card are advertised as cashback cards, but they are not. The cards actually earn Chase Ultimate Rewards® points that can be redeemed for 1 cent each.

That means this card comes with a sign-up bonus of 90,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points after you spend $6,000 in purchases within the first 3 months of account opening. This is an important distinction because with a little effort, you can redeem your Chase Ultimate Rewards points for exponentially more than one cent on travel for airfare, hotel stays and more.

The key to unlocking this potential is to have a Chase Sapphire Preferred Card®, Chase Sapphire Reserve® or Ink Business Preferred® credit card.

Up to $1,350 in values through the Chases Travel Portals

Ultimate Rewards points alone are worth every penny. However, you can earn up to 50% more points when redeeming flights, hotel stays, car rentals or cruises through the Chase travel portal, depending on which Ultimate Rewards card you have and which one has an annual fee.

That's why the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card® or Get up to $1,125 in travel deals for 90,000 Ink points with the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card. bonus. You can earn up to $1,350 in value with the Chase Sapphire Reserve®.

The Chase travel portal works similarly to other online travel agencies such as Expedia or Booking.com and allows you to book flights, hotels and/or car rentals virtually anywhere in the world. If you value simplicity and prefer a way to redeem your points with minimal effort, this is the way to go. Even better, you can combine payment methods between points and cash for any amount. However, if you're willing to strategize a bit, you can double or triple that value, as you'll see below.

Up to 12 one-way US domestic economy flights

Chase has 14 airline and hotel partners to which points can be transferred and among them is the British Airways Executive Clubs

An airline operated by Oneworld affiliate partners such as American Airlines or Alaska Airlines is Chase's strategic transit partner for anyone with travel goals that include short hops. Whether you're going on a family holiday for weeks away, or someone who likes to migrate south for the winter, British Airways Avios could be for you.

For direct domestic flights in economy class, you will pay:

* 7,500 points each way for flights less than 650 miles (eg Atlanta – Miami)

* 9,000 points each way on a flight between 651 and 1,151 miles (eg New York to Orlando)

The 90,000 Ink Points Bonus entitles you to 9 to 12 short domestic one-way flights.

One caveat about these rewards: Some short-haul domestic fares are very cheap and check the cash price of the tickets before transferring your points to British Airways or you can use fewer points when booking flights through the Chases travel portal for 1.25 to 1.5 cents.

Luxury accommodation at the Hyatt Hotel

Another popular Chases transfer partners is Worlds of Hyatt and participating hotels cost between 3,500 and 45,000 points per night or that means you can squeeze up to 25 free nights out of 90,000 Ink Bonus points.

A more worthy use would be a few nights at a luxury hotel like the Park Hyatt Beaver Creek. You will pay between 25,000 and 35,000 points per night here. During ski season, rates can exceed $1,000, providing excellent value for your points.

For example, a 3-night stay in early February 2023 will earn you 90,000 all-in points, excluding taxes and fees. The same stay costs a whopping $3,752 in cash. That's worth 4.1 cents per point, which is significantly more than the 1-1.5 cents you get when you book through the Chase travel portal.

2 return coach flights to Europe

Iberia is the flag carrier of Spain and the Iberia Plus loyalty program offers a very affordable trip to Europe. Round trip from the following cities to Madrid is 34,000 points.

* Boston

*Chicago

* New York (JFK)

* Washington DC (IAD)

These prices are so low that it is worth flying to one of these cities to take advantage of the offer. Book 2 round-trip flights to Madrid with 90,000 points earned with the Ink Business Cash® Limited Time Credit Card or Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card Bonus and get 22,000 points left over.

Taxes and fees for these bonuses can run around $200, but the extra points left over can help mitigate those fees.

Southwest flights $1,200 or more

Southwest Rapid Rewards is another useful transfer partner for Chase Ultimate Rewards. The airline offers a variety of fun destinations in the US (including Hawaii), the Caribbean, Mexico and even Costa Rica.

Southwest seats typically cost about 1.4 cents per Southwest ticket. That means you should get about $1,200 in airfare from the 90,000 point bonus.

The Chicago to Honolulu itinerary below is less than 37,000 points round trip. The cash price for the same flight is $527. With the Chase Ink Card welcome offer, you'll have no problem getting at least two round trips.

Up to $1,350 on statement with Pay Yourself Back

Chase's Pay Yourself back feature allows you to redeem points and effectively "clear" eligible charges from your credit card account. This method allows you to get more value from your points than if you exchanged them directly for cash. Below are the cards, each Pay Yourself Back category and the value of the points you will earn using this tool.

The Ink Business Cash and Unlimited 90,000 point bonus offers a $990 statement credit toward internet, cable, phone service and shipping on this card, while the bonus is worth $1,350 if you have a Sapphire Reserve and redeem points. Covers Airbnb or food expenses.

$900 cash

If that all sounds complicated, you can exchange your points for cash for 1 cent for every cent. You can get the $900 reward literally without any effort. You can choose to request a check or direct deposit into your bank account, or have credit written on your card. You can then put your money to good use by saving or investing it in a high-yield savings account.

$900 gift certificate

If you prefer gift cards to cash, you can exchange Chase Ultimate Rewards points for gift cards at a rate of 1 cent per point. Authorized dealers are:

* apologize

* Body and bath products

*from chili

* Chipotle

* door dash

*ebay

* gap

* Google Play

* Coles

* xbox

Redeeming points for gift cards is usually not the best option for several reasons.

* Cash is much more flexible than gift cards and never expires. There's nothing you can't buy with a gift card that you can't buy with cash.

* If you redeem your points for a gift card, you will not earn points for spending. A better strategy is to use the card to purchase a gift card of your choice and then redeem it for cashback.

One small exception is that sometimes there is an option to purchase a 10% bonus gift card worth 1.1 cents per point.
